The new year is famously a time for new beginnings, goal setting and different lifestyle choices. Why not give yourself a simple and achievable new year resolution, to transform one (or all if you are feeling up to the challenge!) room in your home as a welcomed refresh for 2020? We have 5 top home interior trends for the coming year to give you a little inspiration.
1. Bring nature into your home
Indoor plants have been a growing trend in 2019 and continue to bloom in 2020. Having indoor plants is said to boast many health benefits such as boosting mood, productivity, concentration and creativity. They are also said to reduce stress, fatigue, colds and clean the indoor air by absorbing toxins and producing oxygen. Adding greenery to any room undoubtedly freshens up your decor and adds a pop of colour. If having a green thumb isn’t your forte, artificial plants have come a long way and are a great option.
2. Take your indoors out with an outdoor living area
The nature inspired theme continues with our second 2020 home decor trend – bringing the indoors out. With a key focus on space saving, utilising each area of your home is key. By decorating your patio or outdoor space with outdoor rugs, lanterns, plants, cushions and lighting, you have a brand new room in your home to enjoy with family and friends.
3. Feeling blue?
Our third upcoming trend for 2020 home decor is a leading one that gets adapted into many other trends – Pantone’s colour of the year. 2020’s Pantone colour is ‘Classic Blue’, a timeless colour that Pantone describes as “highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation from which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” They also go on to say that the colour of the year has been introduced to inject creative confidence into interiors – are you brave enough to incorporate classic blue into your home decor next year?
4. Mindfulness
With overall wellness trends emerging over the past few years, mindful living will hit home decor in 2020. Mindfulness is all about bringing your attention to the current moment and focusing on living in the moment. Mindful interiors is very much about creating a sanctuary where you can escape from the stresses of the outside world – a space to relax, enjoy a cup of tea or meditate. Think minimal clutter, neutral tones, up-cycling old pieces and surrounding yourself with items that have meaning.
5. Bring glass to all things that shine
Our final 2020 interior trend is glass lighting. This may seem like a staple in home decor, but think less chandeliers and more geometric glass shapes, oversized bulbs and glass scandi styled lamps. The great thing about this trend is that it will fit into pretty much any home style, meaning that to give a room a little on-trend refresh won’t require heaps of work or money!
